A Galaxy of Friendship

Good Afternoon, I'm sharing a fun and simple galaxy background card for White Rose Crafts, today featuring Distress Oxide inks, which are one of my favorite mediums to work with!

I started by heat embossing this beautiful "Friends are like Stars; you can't always see them, but they are always there." sentiment--a single stamp by Dovecraft called Stars, in Ranger Super Fine Gold embossing powder on an A2 panel of white cardstock. That turned out to be a mistake, but more on that later.

Next I smooshed some Picked Raspberry, Wilted Violet, Twisted Citron, Squeezed Lemonade, Salty Ocean, & Carved Pumpkin Distress Oxide Inks, in various areas of the panel, drying them with a heat tool.

Next I used a Ranger Mini Blending tool to cover the panel with Black Soot Distress Oxide ink, letting some of the color shine through.

To add to the randomness of the background, I used my Distress Sprayer to add droplets of water, letting them sit for about 30 seconds or so, before blotting with a dry paper towel to remove color. To really bring the galaxy look together, I pulled out some white paint from my stash, thinned it with water & used a fan brush to splatter white "stars" all over the colored panel. It was here that I realized the gold embossed sentiment was getting completely lost in the background, so I decided to try to emboss over it with Ranger Super Fine White embossing powder. You can't see it well in the photo...but that did not work. The two powders blended together into a splotchy, muddy mess--no matter how many coats of white I added. So, yeah--I don't recommend trying to layer different colors of embossing powder on top of each other. Learn from my mistake! lol

Rather than admit defeat and scrap the card, I decided to pull out a scrap of white cardstock and heat emboss the sentiment in gold. Then I trimmed it down to 2x2.75 inches, mounting it on a piece of black cardstock, 1/8 inch larger than the sentiment panel with Woodware 1mm foam mounting tape

Next I trimmed my background panel to 4x5.25 inches and then cut an A2 panel of Black Ore Petallics shimmer cardstock and adhered it to the front of a white A2, top folding card base. I used the same 1mm foam mounting tape to pop up my background panel in the center of the shimmery black base, and then adhered the sentiment panel, covering up the embossing on the background panel. I added a few Dovecraft Berry Blush Adhesive Glitter Dots to the galaxy background for a touch of sparkle. As a final touch, I put a wash of Wink of Stella Clear shimmer pen (sold out) over the sentiment panel.

I hope you enjoyed my photo tutorial and were inspired to create your own Galaxy of Friendship! I love all of the Distress products and I'm really looking forward to trying the Sprays from the new release--I think they'll be great for adding some interest and additional color to galaxy backgrounds! Did you know that White Rose Crafts has the first 12 Oxide Sprays available for preorder, right now? If you're as excited about them as I am, hurry over and place your order!

22 Quick Cards with White Rose Crafts January "With Love" kit

Hi there! Another late night post from me for White Rose Crafts--but my family has been down with a stomach virus for the past week or so, and today was the first day I've had time and energy to work on any projects.

To make up for the lateness of my post, I have 22 fast cards to share with you, created, almost entirely, with items included in the limited edition, "Love Story" Card Kit by White Rose Crafts. This kit is a superb value--including great stash builders like a clear stamp set, ornate heart die and Nuvo Drops--as well as beautiful papers, versatile stickers and cut aparts, tons of embellishments and an exclusive Doodles Paper Playground: Sparkle Blend.

You get all that for just $29.50 + shipping, BUT, if you sign up for the 3 month kit subscription, you can get 3 kits for just $74.99, including shipping PLUS exclusive Subscriber freebie content. That's a savings of nearly $35.00!

 There are just 3 of these kits still available while I write this post, and once they're gone, they're gone--so if you like what you see here today, pop over and order your kit right now, so you don't miss out!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Let's get to my actual projects, shall we?
Today, I've got 22 cards to share with you, so I won't be writing up individual processes for each one, but the base of each card was definitely the background. To create mine, I followed a 6x6 One Sheet Wonder template created by a blogger named Shawna over at Teachers Pet. For my projects, I began by following her downloadable PDF cutting templates & then ran with the designs, making them my own, from there. I doubled the number of sheets Shawna cut up in her blog post to created double the cards.
I used mostly products included in the "Love Story" Kit, but added in just a couple of extra things from the store that I will link up at the end of this post! I hope you enjoy my projects. I challenged myself to create a really simple, more elegant design style this time, forgoing my usual cute and punny aesthetic, and I'm very pleased with the outcome, for the most part. Without further adieu, 22 cards with the White Rose Crafts "Love Story" Card Kit.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

For my project, today, I've combined elements from a few different Add-On stamp sets with a couple of items included in the Love Story kit, itself. I knew I wanted to build my own background for this card, so I pulled the heart images from Heffy Doodle Beary Big Heart, Jillibean Soup Sweet Treat, & Heidi Swapp Magnolia Jane: Only You stamp sets, as well as the small "Love" tag from the Heidi Swapp set and the I ❤ U sentiment from Beary Big Heart. I stamped them all, randomly, on an A2 panel of white cardstock in Versamark ink, before heat embossing with Ranger Super Fine White embossing powder, to create my own background pattern. Next, I grabbed some Worn Lipstick, Abandoned Coral, Picked Raspberry, and Candied Apple Distress Oxide Inks and did some emboss resist, ombre ink blending using my Ranger Mini Blending Tools & buffed the embossing with a tissue to turn it back to pure white. To add some interest, I used red Copic markers to add color to the open heart images. On a separate scrap of Copic friendly white card, I stamped the super cute image of the bear holding a big heart from Heffy Doodle's Beary Big Heart set & colored it in with the R20's, E70's & E20's families of Copics, before fussy cutting.

I pulled the beautiful Craft Creations Pink Shimmer paper from the kit, cutting an A2 panel that I adhered to a 110# white card base. Next, I trimmed down my background panel to 3.75 x 5 inches, and adhered it to my prepared, shimmery card base with Woodware 1mm Foam Mounting Tape, for some dimension. Then I grabbed a scrap of light pink vellum from my stash and cut a stitched triangle from it, using a die from my stash, to create an area for my cute colored bear to sit, so it really pops. Before adding the vellum to the card, I popped up the bear on the same 1mm foam tape, then hid dots of Multi Medium Matte behind the image to adhere the vellum to my card front. I selected the "Sending you fuzzy cuddles" sentiment and heat embossed it in Ranger Super Fine White on a strip of red cardstock, cutting the end at an angle to create a banner shape, adhering it at the bottom of the card by the bear. For some sparkle and shine, I added some of the sequins from the Love Story Kit exclusive Doodles Paper Playground: Sparkle Blend With Love, scattered around, and a few drops of Nuvo Morning Dew Crystal Drops (currently out of stock), also included in the kit, and a final touch of Dovecraft Crystal glitter glue (out of stock).

A Swine Line

I apologize for the lateness of this design team post for White Rose Crafts. My son has been sick, and sleep has been a rare commodity for both he and I for the better part of the last week, so my sweet husband decided to let me sleep today---until 5pm! 😳 I know I needed it, but it does mean I'm running super late with this post today!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Its Little Acres week over at White Rose & I knew I had to dig into the undeniably adorable Pigments of Imagination stamp set by Little Acres Creations. Little Acres was a small stamp company out of Colorado that, sadly, went out of business in 2018, but WRC owner, Kay, swooped in and purchased the remainder of the stock, prior to the store closing--making White Rose Crafts the exclusive retailer of her stylized, cute, now limited edition designs. If you're a fan of White Rose Crafts or Doodles Paper Playground, you've likely seen a few projects featuring these fantastic stamps from me in the past with my Moo Brew card (This set is currently out of stock, but will be making an exciting appearance in the future, so keep an eye out for it in May), and Piles of Smiles card--which might be my favorite so far!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This time around I went back to my all time love, clean and simple scene cards that rely heavily on coloring. I stamped the fun mud puddle image on a piece of 65#, Copic friendly white cardstock in Memento Tuxedo Black ink and stamping that cute slip and sliding piggy on a separate scrap of cardstock, and colored both, leaving the top 2/3 of the card clean.

After coloring the ground in the stippled style, I put the panel back into my Misti and stamped the "There's a swine line between you and 'Perfect" sentiment and 3 of the cute butterflies from the set. as a final touch, I selected a pale brown ink from my collection and stamped the "Sqwee" sentiment 3 times, so my piggy sounded as excited as he looks! I colored the cute flutterbys, and 1/8 inch off of each side of the panel, before adhering to a Neenah Desert Storm A2 cardbase with Woodware 1mm Foam Mounting Tape. I used that same mounting tape to pop up the cute piggy and give the card a tiny bit of dimension.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I ADORE this Pigments of Imagination stamp set--not least of all because the name of it is a cute pun! It makes me sad that this artist won't be making more designs because she has a really unique style that I love more than I thought I would--but I am pleased to represent a company that helped support a struggling artist. These designs are so much fun to color and interpret into a design, and I KNOW I'll be making more cute piggy cards in the not too distant future!
Warm Winter Wishes
Today I'm sharing a cute card I made for the White Rose Crafts Monthly Sketch Challenge. If you haven't heard of it before--on the first of each month, WRC shares a card sketch in their FB Gallery group, and invites anyone who wants to join in to share a card, layout or other craft project featuring their interpretation of that sketch using at least one product available for purchase at White Rose Crafts. Entries must be received by the 25th of each month to be eligible to win a $15.00 e-gift card to the store! Its a fun, easy way to get your mojo flowing, use some great things from your stash and maybe add some cool new products to your collection from the store!
January 2019 sketch
Each month, the WRC design team will be sharing their interpretations of the challenge sketch within the first week of the month, in hopes of inspiring others to join in and inspire US!
This month, I decided to combine my obsession with winter themed cards with this month's DT theme of Love! I selected a wide array of products from the shop--many of them happen to be Lawn Fawn, but I did do some of my signature mixing & matching on this project, too.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

To start with, I decided I wanted to use some of the awesome Perfectly Plaid papers from the Lawn Fawn line. I selected 4 6x6 patterns from a combination of Perfectly Plaid: WinterPerfectly Plaid: Chill & Perfectly Plaid: Rainbow--making sure each one included the same range of blue. I knew I wanted one bright pop of color, so I selected one of the patterns with some golden yellow from the Chill pack. As accent patterns, I chose two snowflake patterns. One each from the Wild Rose Studio Festive Florals, and Frosted Lace paper packs. I also added a solid frosty blue and golden yellow cardstock from my stash.

Using several dies from my stash, I cut my paper elements to fit the sketch, including a small square of white cardstock. I selected Lawn Fawn's Winter Penguin stamp set for my mini scene, stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black, and other inks from my stash & colored with Copic markers. I added Glossy Accents and Dovecraft Crystal Glitter Glue (out of stock) for lots of sparkle and shine, allowing them to dry completely before assembling the layers on a top folding 110#, white A2 card base with a combination of double sided sticky tape & Woodware 1mm foam mounting tape. I performed some careful stamp surgery on the "warm winter wishes" sentiment from Baaah Humbug by Lawn Fawn in Versafine Clair Nocturne ink in the lower left hand cornerAs a final touch of bling, I added a selection of sequins from the Doodles Paper Playground Icicle Sparkle Blend!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I hope you enjoyed my card today--and that you've been inspired to join us in the Challenge and create your own layered masterpiece (and maybe win some store credit!!)
